Sprint or Olympic Distance
September 3, 2012
Second Beach serves as the perfect backdrop for this fantastic location triathlon. The swim is held in the beautiful waters of English Bay, followed by the cycle leg through Stanley Park, where the roads will be completely closed to traffic. The final leg, the run, will take you through beatiful scenery in Stanley Park, including the world-renowned seawall. Have your friends and family cheer you on along the course!
Prerequisites:
The Team In Training® triathlon programs are open to participants with any and all levels of cycling, swimming and running experience - from absolute beginners to experienced racers.
Training Program
TNT triathlon coaches design three-four month training programs that prepare participants for the Sprint (500 metre swim, 20K bike, and 5K run) and Olympic (1500 metre swim, 40K bike, and 10K run), distances. Coaches work directly with participants at weekly training sessions and are also available throughout the week to answer training and fitness-related questions.
The triathlon training program focuses on enhancing participants' swimming, cycling, and running endurance, agility, and technique. Pool based swims, transition workouts, strength training, injury prevention and nutrition are integral. A typical weekly schedule of training for the triathlon programs consists of:
- A coached team training on Saturday morning, featuring a bike or bike/run workout
- A coached team pool swim workout on a weekday evening
- A coached team track workout on a weekday evening
- A comprehensive training schedule that clearly outlines what you should be doing for your "homework training"
- Two rest days
- Additional clinics on gear, biomechanics, nutrition, injury prevention, and more
Coaches
The TNT triathlon offers a qualified and dedicated group of triathlon trainers. We select our coaches for their experience, professionalism, knowledge, and enthusiasm, as well as their devotion to the cause. All have extensive coaching experience and have proven themselves in numerous athletic endeavors.
Mentors
We match TNT triathlon members in an approximate 8-1 ratio with a past TNT participant, otherwise known as a mentor. Mentors serve both as a resource and as a peer advisor, encouraging and supporting team members throughout the training and fundraising season.
Honourees
TNT members train and raise funds in honour of a local resident who has been affected by a blood cancer. Your honouree becomes your inspiration as you work toward goals that will better both of your lives. We provide each triathlon participant with a wristband to wear with the team honouree' s name.
