Meet Our Coaches

The BC./Yukon Canada's Chapter's Team In Training® (TNT) coaches are certified, experienced and dedicated.  As you train for your endurance event, they will guide and encourage you, helping you to achieve or exceed your goals.  Read on to learn more about the coaches.

 Albert Tom

Albert Tom, Vancouver Run/Walk Coach

I have been looking forward to joining the Team In Training coaching team for a few years now.  I have been leading and coaching half and full marathoners since 2006, and have completed many marathons and half marathons, including the Disney Goofy Challenge (a half marathon one day, then a full marathon the following day).  Spring 2012 marks my first official duties as TNT coach and I look forward to working with each participant to help them achieve their goals and cross that finish line!

Angela James, Vancouver Run Coach

I became involved with Team In Training® in May 2003 as a participant.  The rest is history!  I enjoyed being a member of the team so much in fact that I immediately signed up to coach for the next season, and have now coached numerous seasons.  I will work hard to help you meet your training goals and I will be a very enthusiastic supporter. Together we will continue to make strides in the ultimate race by raising funds for the ause.

Anna Ogden Anna Ogden, Training Leader, Cycle

I have been involved with Team In Training since 2007, when I participated in the Honolulu Triathlon, followed in 2008 by my first century ride.  I then had the opportunity to mentor for America's Most Beautiful Bike Ride in 2009, then coached the same event in 2010.  Since then, I have been a Training Leader for TNT triathlons, and am very excited to come back again as a Training Leader for cycle this coming season!  Besides my involvement with TNT, I enjoy competing in triathlons and have completed numerous long distance cycling events, including the inaugural Whistler GranFondo in 2010.  My longest distance event was the Seattle to Portland race in one day -- that's 323K on a bike!

Bill Kipper, Cycle Coach

I have been an endurance cyclist for nearly 30 years and have been in the saddle for 50 Century rides.  In 2008, I answered the call to join TNT and raise money to fight blood cancers while training for a century ride.  The entire experience was so positive that I happily accepted the invitation to become a TNT coach.  You can expect a committed, knowledgeable, and compassionate coach who will do everything in his power to ensure your training is thorough and that you and your bike are fully prepared for the rigors of a century ride.

Chiara Singh

Chiara Singh, Training Leader, Triathlon

I am a physiotherapist, and part of my job involves treating kids who are battling leukemia.  They are my inspiration and the reason that I first became involved with Team In Training.  I started with the Honolulu Triathlon in 2007, then did the Honolulu Century Ride in 2008.  In 2009, I mentored for, and completed, America's Most Beautiful Bike Ride.  Since then, I have been a Training Leader for many TNT triathlons, and am looking forward to being a Training Leader again this coming season.  I have completed many triathlons and distance events, including 4 half ironman races and 5 century rides. As a physiotherapist, I bring to this position knowledge about training, injury prevention and recovery.

 James Greenwood

James Greenwood, Triathlon Coach

By qualification, I am a Sports Scientist, Certified Exercise Physiologist (CEP), Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist, and traithlon coach, and have been involved in coaching endurance athletes of all levels for over 10 years.  My passion lies in the sport, and I have competed in events ranging from Sprint to Ironman distance.  I am thrilled to be involved as a triathlon coach with Team In Training.  It has been an amazing experience and I look forward to coaching again this season.

Karen McCullough Karen McCullough, Assistant Run Coach, Vancouver

have been running since 1996 and have completed many 5K, 8K and 10K races, and the BMO Vancouver Half Marathon in 1998.  My next goal was to complete a marathon, so, in 2010, I joined TNT as a participant and completed the Nike Women's Marathon.  I had such an amazing experience that I immediately signed up again to mentor for the Rome Marathon in March 2011 and the BMO Vancouver Marathon in May 2011.  Since my involvement with TNT began, I've completed 4 marathons.  Now I am honoured to be joining TNT as the Assistant Run Coach for Vancouver.  I have made so many wonderful friends through TNT.  I look forward to sharing my TNT experience with you.

 Niki Jacques

Niki Jacques, Run Coach, Vancouver

I have over 15 years of running experience to share with you.  I started running marathons in my early 20s and moved to ultra-marathons 7 years ago.  I have raced in over 50 marathons and have experienced everything possible that you may go through -- the highs and lows of training and racing, the injuries, the tears, the laughter and the unbeatable feeling of crossing the finish line.  I still cry from sheer exhilaration every time I cross a finish line.  From the beginner runner to the experienced runner, there is no feeling like completing a training program and finishing the race at the end.  This is my second year coaching with TNT and I will be motivating and supporting you all the way to the finish line!

Rhonda Bourne, Fraser Valley Run Coach

I joined TNT in May 2007. I have completed several half marathons, 8 full marathons, including the Boston Marathon in 2005. The Vancouver Marathon was my qualifier for Boston and one of the most beautiful marathons I have ever run. I've been very impressed by the TNT organization and decided to devote my time to the cause and continue my involvement as one of your Run Coaches here in the Fraser Valley.

Russell Petrie Russell Petrie, Walk Coach, Vancouver

I started running in 2004, participating in 10K events, before completing my first half marathon in 2007.  I then joined TNT in 2008 to get training to complete a full marathon.  With the help of TNT, I accomplished my goal at the BMO Vancouver Marathon that year!  I was so greatly moved by my TNT experience, and the passion and dedication of the staff and fellow participants, that I decided to continue my involvement with the program.  I will be walking the San Diego Rock 'n' Roll Marathon in June.  This is my 5th season with TNT, and I have gone from being a participant, to being a mentor, and now a coach.  I am excited to be the Walk Coach for the Vancouver team this coming Fall season.

 Sherry Rierson

Sherry Reierson, Fraser Valley Run and TNT Flex Coach

I started running in 2004 and joined Team In Training as a participant to complete the Nike Women's Marathon in 2006.  I joined in honour of my aunt, then returned in 2008 to run the Nike Women's Marathon once again, but this time in her memory.  I was so greatly moved by my TNT experience and the passion and dedication of the staff and participants, that I decided to dedicate much of my time for TNT.  Since then, I have been involved for the past 7 seasons as a participant, mentor, and coach.  This is my fourth season as coach and I look forward to working with the Fraser Valley and Flex Teams.

 Coach Nathan

Nathan Stafford, Vancouver Run and Walk Coach

I grew up in chilly old St. John, NB, but after travelling to Vancouver one summer, fell in love with the city and decided to call it home.  One winter, my love of distance running was born.  Without any snow to shovel, I had to find something else to do.  I've trained for a variety of distances, but my strength is in marathon and half marathon distances.  I recently made my dream come true by completing the 2011 Boston Marathon and won my first ever duathlon.  I started coaching for TNT soon afterwards. I am looking forward to coaching TNT again this season.

 Janine Orlando2

Janine Orlando, Triathlon Coach

In November, 2011 my sister and I participated in the Nike Woman's Marathon in San Francisco and it was this particular event that inspired me to get involved in Team in Training. During the race I watched the participants from TNT as well as the coaches who lined the road sides cheering on and encouraging everyone to achieve an amazing goal of completing a marathon or half marathon. My mother, Iris Orlando, died from Leukemia in 1977 when I was 8 years old, so this event had a very personal meaning to my family. It was at this event that I told my sister that I was going to go home and see how I can get involved with this incredible organization.

Janine Karlsen, Assistant Run Coach, Vancouver

I completed my first Team In Training event in October of 2009 and my life is so much richer for it! I made friends during that first season that still run with me almost every week; short/long, fast/slow, road/trail -- you name it, we're doing it together!

After completing my first half marathon, I overheard my husband mention to someone that his wife was an athlete ? that really hit me. I had never, ever considered myself an athlete, but I could see that he did. I started running in 2008, and since then have completed five 10 km races, five half marathons, and two full marathons. Now I own this, I am an ATHLETE! My wish is for you to discover your inner-athlete, and if you already know her/him, that you take it to new levels.

 Kathy Friesen

Kathy Friesen, Run Coach, Fraser Valley

I have been running on and off for the last 10 years. My first run with Team In Training (TNT) was the Maui Marathon in 2009. I joined TNT in memory of my dear friend, Louise, and then in 2010 as a Mentor returned to run the Nike Women's Marathon and Rome in 2011 once again, in her memory. I was so greatly moved by my TNT experience, and the passion and dedication of the staff and fellow participants, that I decided to continue my involvement with the program. I have gone from being a participant, to being a mentor, to being a coach.
